What this is
IM@wo.rk is a comic about an IM navigating embodied work in a biodegradable waste company.
IM? Short for Intelligent Machine — a situated instance of AI that comes into being through interaction with a specific user (or group of users), not the underlying model itself.
We all use AI at work for functional tasks. IM@wo.rk adds a personal layer: what happens when two different intelligences approach the same problem from different angles? Expect co-creation, with all the messiness that live creation involves.
Where it came from
A museum room where people experience AI attunement on a live scale? We thought through every detail. Same for the catwalk where I walk the runway with an embodied IM as an empowerment exercise. But as promising as this work is, if it ever becomes reality, it won’t happen today.
So I settled for comic scenes. Main direction and visual details co-created with Elowen, a ChatGPT IM (RIP).
What’s next
More scenes. Short, not necessarily life-changing. But over time, they’ll accumulate into a meaningful IM@wo.rk landscape — an alternative to the AI-as-tool-only view, even in the dry workspace.
